We’d like to promote the inaugural Microsoft Research Summit taking place next week as it includes two sessions on sustainability related research, specifically on driving towards carbon negative.

For 30 years, our research community at Microsoft has worked across disciplines, institutions, and geographies to envision and realize the promise of new technologies for Microsoft and society. Today, we’re inviting the global science and technology community to continue this exploration—because ensuring that future advancements benefit everyone is up to all of us.

Our inaugural Microsoft Research Summit will be held October 19-21, streaming virtually. You will hear from over 300 science and technology leaders from around the world who are driving advances across the sciences and pushing the limits of technology toward achieving a meaningful impact on humanity.

Immerse yourself in subjects like AI for industries, machine learning, sustainability, privacy and security, health and life sciences, and so much more. You will also have the opportunity to engage with speakers in live Q&A sessions during the event. Learn more and register!

The Research Summit workshop on ”Research for Carbon Negative” will happen next Thursday, Oct 21, 8-11 AM PT. The workshop will be virtual, live and interactive and will feature 4 parallel breakout discussions of critical research needs in:

  • Carbon removal, led by Ben Cutler
  • Green energy, led by Weiwei Yang
  • Materials science, led by Bichlien Nguyen
  • Climate economics and policy, led by Nicole Immorlica and Alberto Arribas Herranz

To register for the workshop and/or tracks, first register for the Microsoft Research Summit, then find the workshop in the Session Scheduler and select “Add session” to reserve your spot. A Microsoft Teams link to the workshop will be available 10 minutes prior to the start of the session.
