SUMMARY:CEREO- Jan Boll
DESCRIPTION:“Interdisciplinary Water Resources Education at the University of Idaho” \nIn 2006\, faculty at the University of Idaho started the Waters of the West Program\, and in 2007\, they launched the Water Resources (WR) graduate degree program under the Colleges of Graduate Studies and Law.  This was the culmination of several years of preparation. The WR Program includes M.S./Ph.D. degrees in Water Resources\, with three option areas: Engineering & Science; Science & Management; and Law\, Management & Policy; and concurrent M.S./ J.D. and Ph.D./ J.D. degrees in any of the three option areas. The new degree is a coordinated effort to create interdisciplinary study options in water resources at the university. This interdisciplinary WR Program encompasses engineering\, natural and social sciences\, to advance water resources education\, research and\, outreach throughout Idaho. The term “water resources” is used here in the broadest sense.  It is the study of how water moves through and interacts with natural systems\, and the physical\, social\, and economic aspects of human interaction with the water cycle.  In this talk\, Dr. Boll will outline the Waters of the West and WR program\, the nuts and bolts of developing and managing a university-wide program\, and how this led to the successful collaborative NSF-IGERT grant. \nSponsored by CEREO\n\nDr. Jan Boll is the Director of the Waters of the West (WoW) water resources graduate program\, the environmental science program and the professional science masters program at the University of Idaho.  He is also professor in watershed hydrology and water quality. Dr. Boll has a Ph.D. from Cornell University (1995) and M.S. from the University of Idaho (1988) and Wageningen Agricultural University (1988). \nWednesday\, 15 April 2015\nETRL 101\, 2-3pm\nWashington State University\, Pullman \nAMS Connections: Puyallup REC\, WSU Tri-Cities\, WSU Vancouver\, WSU Spokane\nThe dial up number for all sites for this event is 5706040\n\nThis talk will also be recorded. Check the CEREO website for availability.
